ccu/CICU team members

  • 2-3 APPs every day, including weekends

  • 2 cardiology fellows: a 2nd/3rd year General fellow or a Heart Failure/ACHD fellow; one on each service.

  • Resident: a 2nd or 3rd year on elective (occasional)

  • CCU attending, CICU attending

  • Pharmacist

  • Social Worker

 

DAILY SCHEDULE

Subject to adjustment based on patient care needs and conference times

  • 0745: Sign-out from nocturnalist to APPs/Fellow in CCU Team room as group

    • Happens at 0715 on Tuesdays & Fridays due to conferences

  • 0800-0900: Pre-round

  • 0900-0915: Study rounds in CCU team room (Pretending prepares by pulling up studies on Centricity/Syngo/Xcelera)

  • 0915: Team Huddle with Daily Lead APP to determine rounding order prior to start (generally begin with sickest patients, then new patients, then anticipated transfers, then remaining patients)

  • 0915-1200: Structured Interprofessional Bedside Rounds

  • 1300: Cardiology triage meeting to discuss admits & transfers with the A,B,C,D teams

  • 1200-2000: daily care of patients, notes, transfers, admits, discharges

    • 1700-2000: One fellow remains in-house and carries the CCU code pager; alternate days based on weekends/clinic

      • In general, the cardiology B fellow covers on Wednesdays

      • Responsibilities Include: evaluate patients with clinical change, assist in triaging and calling urgent consults, coordinate transfers or admissions from the ER

      • Responsibilities do NOT include: primary admitting responsibilities unless patient acuity and # of admissions overwhelms service- this is at the discretion of the CCU/Card B Attending

  • 2000: sign-out from APP/Fellows to nocturnalist

  • 2000-0800: Direct patient care by nocturnalist.

CICU Fellow only:

  • Transplant Conference is weekly on Tuesday morning from 7:30 - 8:30 on zoom AND Thursday morning from 8:00 – 9:45 in Plaza Cafe (Rooms A&B). Be prepared to present the in-patients who are being considered for advanced heart failure therapies. There is a template that needs to be completed for each patient being presented (listed under “Card B Rotation”). Following the presentation, the templated note should be updated with the results of the discussion (list, turn down for X reason or continuing work-up, needs XYZ completed) and cc’d to the patient’s attending. Attendance required.

  • CCU and CICU patients are primarily located on 5SE, with 5SA (CT Surgery) overflow

  • CCU workroom is 5318 on 5SE, at the end of the leftmost hallway.

  • CICU workroom is located on 5SA
