HMC Cath/Inpatient
Responsibilities
Lead rounds with the inpatient team (when not in the cath lab)
Check in with the resident team and provide clinical support and teaching
Evaluate and consent patients prior to cath
Learn how to perform cath procedures including diagnostic coronary angiography, right heart catheterization, temporary pacemakers, and rarely pericardiocentesis.
Attend HMC case conference every Tuesday at 12:00-1:00 PM. Bring a case to discuss. No need to prepare a formal presentation but know your case well.
daily schedule
Hours: 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM. The inpatient cardiology team room is located at 2CT73
Review all cath cases the day before and discuss/triage those cases with the interventional attending scheduled the next day.
Check in with the Cath lab RN at 7:00 am via text or voice calls (both reach the same RN, see objectives button above for more details) to check for any add on cases. Triage them if so. Consent all inpatients that are going for cath, fill out moderate sedation H&P, and place moderate sedation orders.
Evaluate and prep the outpatients when they arrive (around 7:30). They are located on the 8th floor OPU. The cath packet should contain the patient’s “pre-op” H&P. This needs to be completed or confirmed within 24 hrs of cath, due to the potential use of conscious sedation. Ensure outpatients are consented.
If there are no cath lab cases, you are responsible for CCU/inpatient rounds.
